Who we are?

The Anne Arundel County Archeological Society is a chapter of the Archeological Society of Maryland, Inc. (ASM). The Chapter was established to promote, support, encourage and engage in archeology through study, investigation, preservation, and publication. It is composed of people from all backgrounds, including professional and avocational archeologists, students and others who want to learn more about the field. We all have a common interest in archeology and a desire to increase our knowledge about archeology. Our primary focus is within the Anne Arundel County. Membership is open to all who share the objectives of the Chapter.

Objectives of the Chapter:

The Anne Arundel County chapter is devoted to the study and conservation of archeology in Anne Arundel County as well as throughout Maryland. The Chapter's objectives are as follows:

  • Discover, investigate, and conserve archeological resources in particular in Anne Arundel County but also throughout Maryland;
  • Promote proper recording of archeological sites;
  • Respect the fragile and non-renewable nature of archeological sites;
  • Create bonds between avocational and professional archeologists;
  • Develop opportunities for working with professional archeologists through directed fieldwork, analysis, and reporting;
  • Promote public dissemination of information about Maryland's buried heritage, in particular that of Anne Arundel County's;
  • Publish the results of all excavations undertaken by the Chapter.

In support of these objectives, the Anne Arundel County chapter sponsors a variety of activities, including meetings, events, field visits, etc.
